Slipping gears
If RPMs rise without the vehicle accelerating, or it feels like it pops out of gear, the transmission is slipping. Low fluid, worn clutches, or a failing solenoid are typical causes.
Delayed engagement
A pause before the vehicle moves after shifting into Drive or Reverse often indicates low fluid pressure or internal wear.
Harsh or erratic shifting
Clunky shifts, flares between gears, or shifting at odd times can be caused by sensors, solenoids, or software — many of which are affordable fixes.
Red fluid leaks and burning smells
Transmission fluid is usually red or pink. A leak under the middle of the vehicle, or a burnt smell, means it's time for an inspection. Overheated fluid is the number-one killer of automatic transmissions.
Why acting early saves money
A fluid service costs about $150. A solenoid repair might be a few hundred. A rebuild is thousands. Most rebuilds we do could have been avoided with earlier attention.
