Synthetic vs. Conventional Oil: What to Use

The short answer

For Texas drivers, full synthetic oil is worth it: it resists heat breakdown, lasts 7,500–10,000 miles, and many modern engines require it. Always use the grade in your owner's manual.

What's the difference?

Conventional oil is refined from crude. Synthetic is engineered for uniform molecules that resist breakdown at high temperatures and flow better when cold.

Why it matters in Texas

Engine oil temperatures climb fast in 100°F traffic. Synthetic oil resists thermal breakdown, keeping engines cleaner and better protected.

Is it worth the cost?

Synthetic changes cost more but last longer — often 7,500–10,000 miles versus 3,000–5,000. Per mile, the cost difference is small, and many modern engines require synthetic.

Our recommendation

Always use the grade your manual specifies. If your car allows either, we recommend full synthetic or a synthetic blend for Texas driving.

Need oil change?

Synthetic oil changes, filters, fluids, and factory maintenance. Typical cost: $49 – $119 oil change · $199 – $699 milestone services.
